Medical Transcription/Scribe

Department: Operations
Location: Louisville, KY

Position Title: On site Medical Transcriptionist/Scribe

Reports to: Office Manager

The medical transcriptionist is responsible for proofing, editing, and transcribing provider documentation. This includes but is not limited to office visits, independent medical exams, letters to insurance companies, and patient letters. The goal of the transcriptionist is to have the most accurate documentation being completed and sent out to referring providers.

Transcriptionist duties:

  • Reviews and edits transcriptions for spelling, grammar, clarity, and correct medical terminology
  • Produces medical reports and records, correspondence for Physicians, patient information and other administrative material such as statistics and patient data
  • Maintains medical files and databases for various records such as medical histories
  • Types and sends reports to referring or Primary Care Providers
  • Transcribes physician dictation for office notes, appeals, patient letters, and other patient information
  • Perform other tasks and duties as assigned by Supervisor and OM
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism at all times
  • Understand and follow all company policies, procedures and protocols for the operational efficiency of their departments
  • Understand how HIPAA, HITECT, OSHA, and other governmental regulations affect you and your department
  • Work positively with all members of E & B to ensure successful operations of the practice
  • Communicate any necessary issues to the attention of your supervisor and/or the OM
  • Attend and actively participate in all meetings as needed
  • Always have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the duties and tasks assigned to you and carry out those duties to the best of your abilities
  • Must follow all personnel policies, including professionalism, attendance, dress code, discipline, code of conduct and training
  • Participant in new employee training as needed
  • Other tasks as needed

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Ability to promote favorable facility image with physicians, patients, hospitals, other physician offices, and general public
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems
  • Ability to triage patient care questions related to post-op, post-injury, and insurance benefits
  • Work effectively as a team member with physicians and other staff
  • Appropriately interact with patients, families, and others
  • Ability to flexibly respond to changing demands
  • Must have a flexible work schedule
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and to effectively contribute to patient planning.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and ability to adapt communication styles to meet the needs of the specific patients and other health care team members.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Sound judgment.
  • Supports a respectful, team-oriented workplace.
  • Willingness to support and encourage co-workers
  • Medical transcription experience preferred
